Quantum currency · step 1 of 9
A coherent system under pressure
compresses. It does not fragment.
Two independent axes, not one. Coherence is how well your parts are in phase. Energy is what's available to do work. They vary together — and apart. Four quadrants. One goal: Regeneration.

content in progressWhy this step exists
Step 1 exists to end a category error. Most systems — personal, team, business — collapse the whole picture onto a single axis: fine or not fine. The picture is two axes. Four quadrants. Each quadrant needs a different response. The work of this step is not to pick a quadrant and label yourself. It is to build the capacity to read both axes at once — for yourself and for the business. That capacity is what makes Regeneration possible as a goal rather than an aspiration.
The cardiac plexus — where this registers in the body
The HeartMath Institute has shown in measurable terms that the heart's electromagnetic field is approximately sixty times greater in amplitude than the brain's electrical activity — and toroidal in shape. The cardiac plexus is where coherence is generated, measured, and broadcast. It is also where the effects of sustained compression are first and most legibly registered. Participants who have been under extraction for a long time will often name the cardiac region spontaneously when asked where they feel the work. This is not metaphorical. It is physiological.
Depth and breadth, embodied
You and the business will often be in different quadrants at the same moment. A compressed founder running a scattered business. A generating founder inside a fragmented organisation. A depleted team holding coherent phase relationships while the leadership layer above is loud and out of phase. Reading inside and outside as separate coordinates is what makes a response accurate. Treat a scattered business like a compressed one and you give it more fuel for the fire. Treat a fragmented team like a scattered one and you ask it to slow down when what it actually needs is to start talking across the walls.
The practical translation — ops and movement
Where this shows up in practice: ops bring the coherence. Movement brings the energy. Lots of movement, no ops — scattered. Lots of ops, no movement — fragmented (highly structured, not talking to itself). Ops that hold and movement that flows — generating. A business at rest inside sound ops — compressed and waiting. The quadrants are diagnostic coordinates, not identities. They shift. That's the point.
Reading the room — soil signals at this step
Path signals
The matrix lands as abstraction. "Right, two axes, got it" — said fast, moved past. Framework logged, not received. No self-location attempted.
Rocky ground signals
Someone picks a quadrant fast and announces it with confidence. "I'm generating." No examination, no counterexample considered. The matrix is grabbed and used as identity rather than coordinate.
Thorny ground signals
The participant locates themselves in three quadrants simultaneously and can't decide. The framework is applied to five relationships at once before any one of them has been actually metabolised.
Good soil signals
A pause, then a specific location with nuance. "At work I'm scattered; in the business plan I'm fragmented — I've never named that gap before." Named the difference between inside and outside. That's the matrix doing its work.
What this step tends to surface
Two common collapses. The first: collapsing to the energy axis alone — "I'm fine / I'm not fine" — missing that a high-energy system can be deeply out of phase, or a low-energy system can be perfectly coherent. The second: collapsing to the coherence axis alone — "I'm broken / I'm whole" — missing that a coherent system can be simply depleted and a decoherent one can look energetic. The work is holding both axes at once. When it lands, the relief is usually, "I'm not broken. I'm compressed. I need contact, not repair."

content in progressLocate yourself on the matrix — inside
PersonalRight now, in yourself — where do you sit? You may be in one quadrant, or moving between two, or holding two at once (one at work, one at home). No single answer is worse than the others. They call for different responses.
Coherent · Depleted
Compressed
Depleted but intact. Clear underneath. If this is you — what kind of contact would restore radius?
Decoherent · Depleted
Fragmented
Compartments not talking to each other. If this is you — which compartments need to start communicating first?
Decoherent · Energised
Scattered
Bouncing off walls, putting out fires. If this is you — what would slowing enough to get into phase look like?
Locate the business on the matrix — outside
BusinessNow the same matrix, applied to the business. Where does each quadrant show up? Be specific — name the team, the offering, the client relationship, the workstream. A healthy business has parts in all four quadrants at different moments. The goal is knowing which is which.
Coherent · Depleted
Compressed
Where is the business carrying quiet coherence? What is waiting for contact to come back to full radius?
Decoherent · Depleted
Fragmented
Where are the compartments not talking? Lots of ops, no adherence. What would reintegration look like?
Decoherent · Energised
Scattered
Where is there movement without ops? Always putting out fires, looking great while doing it. What ops would bring the coherence?
The costly misread
BusinessWhere, in this business, have you been reading one quadrant as another — and responding to the wrong one? A scattered team treated as compressed (given more rest). A fragmented offering treated as scattered (told to slow down when it needed to connect its own parts). What has that misread cost — in time, resource, relationship, energy?
The genesis node
BusinessWhat is the irreducible architecture of this business — the part that cannot be deleted, only appended to? Not the brand, not the product line, not the current strategy. The genesis node. What is the chain of blocks resting on?
To carry forward — two axes, four coordinates, one goal
From here on, every time you assess a system — yours, your team's, a client's, a relationship's — you carry two independent variables: coherence and energy. Four quadrants: Generating, Compressed, Scattered, Fragmented. Not labels. Coordinates.
The goal is Regeneration — when all nodes are generating and contributing to the whole, the system expands and evolves. No single node carries that load. The torus at full radius needs other tori at full radius.
The torus doesn't stop transmitting because the system has reduced its visible radius. Coherent fields in proximity will still read it. That's how they find each other — which is Step 2.
